In Osnabrück, a replica of the lion poodle by Lukas Memken (1860–1934) from 1929 has been preserved in front of St. Peter's Cathedral. The original lion poodle is housed in the city's Cultural History Museum. During World War II, Memken's metal figure from the Shepherd's Fountain on Rosenplatz was melted down.
A stone replacement was created by the sculptor Georg Hörnschemeyer.

The statue may represent a legal antiquity – a sign of jurisdiction that was also used on seals. It was bestowed on the city by Duke Henry the Lion. The original was first mentioned in 1331. The new lion poodle was installed in 1925.
