In the Plaza de Mio Cid stands the monument to Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar—El Cid Campeador.
The bronze equestrian statue of El Cid was made by Juan Cristóbal and inaugurated in 1955.
With his sword and cape flying, the equestrian figure, mounted by Babieca, poses as he departs for exile. The sword points toward Valencia, the city he conquered in 1094. The statue faces San Pablo Bridge, where we can see eight Cid figures by Joaquín Lucarini.
