The monumental work, dedicated to the "Hero of the two Worlds", Giuseppe Garibaldi (Nice 1807 - Caprera 1882), was created in marble in 1906 by the Repetto di Lavagna masters based on a design by the Lombard sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna 1831 - Milan 1905 ).The monument is located in the historic Ghiaia district, very tied to its traditions; the best known is the Spring Festival which consists of lighting a bonfire and distributing free pancakes.
