This is the moat of Wolseong, the main royal palace of the Silla kingdom (57 BCE-935 CE). A moat is a large ditch filled with water that provides an additional line of defense around a fortification. This artificial moat protected the palace's northern side, while Namcheon Stream served as a natural moat along the palace's southern side.
