The Panzerreiter has been on the Jakobsplan since 1947. On the one hand, it commemorates a stationed tank regiment from 1935 and, on the other hand, the city's patron saint: the dragon slayer "Saint George".

The equestrian monument was created in 1938/39 by the sculptor Erich Windbichler as a "Panzerreiter" (Tank Rider). It combines two traditions: the stationing of Panzer Regiment II in Eisenach in 1935, which emerged from the so-called "Heavy Silesian Riders" unit.
