In Putlitz, during the Middle Ages and early modern period, there was a gallows garden as a place of execution. It was a triangular piece of land in front of the Pritzwalker Tor, near the former railway line to Suckow.
The executioner (also called hangman) in Putlitz had not only the task of executions and torture, but also the knackery (skinning and disposing of dead animals) as an important source of income. This activity remained with him even after the end of the actual executioner's office.
