At Piazza Duomo you will also find the special theatre of Atri. When the doors of the Teatro Piceno are open (and there is no performance), you can step inside to admire the horseshoe-shaped auditorium. This is a typical Italian architectural style for theatres, due to the good acoustics.
With three hundred seats, the Teatro Piceno is not large, but all the more beautiful and intimate. If you look closely at the painting on the ceiling, you will see Pegasus, the winged horse from Greek mythology. The cloths for the stage are still from 1881!
