Built in 1778, it was enlarged in 1791 and 1862, and associated with a graveyard established in 1789.
Local legend claims John Wesley himself preached here. According to the story, a local squire hired a renowned pugilist and local tough, John Massey, to disrupt the sermon. Instead of attacking, Massey was converted to Christianity on the spot.
The the cemetery is still open to the public but the chapel building has been beautifully restored and converted into a private luxury residence known as Top Chapel House.
