Mount Whitfield Conservation Park protects more than 300 hectares of tropical rainforest and open forest on the edge of Cairns, providing an important refuge for native wildlife just minutes from the city. There is a network of walking tracks that climb through lush vegetation to panoramic lookouts overlooking Cairns, the Coral Sea, and the surrounding mountain ranges. The park is especially popular for birdwatching, so keep an eye out for Victoria’s riflebird, buff-breasted paradise kingfishers, and rainbow bee-eaters, which are among a wide range of species that call this beautiful area home.
