The Wonderland Hill Lookout – Wonderland Lake loop from Broadway & Quince Ave offers a fantastic blend of easy lakeside walking and a more challenging climb, making it one of the best loop hikes in Boulder, Colorado. You'll enjoy serene views across Wonderland Lake, often spotting wildlife like waterfowl and deer, before ascending Wonderland Hill for sweeping panoramic vistas of the Flatirons and Boulder Reservoir. This 3.6 miles (5.8 km) route, with 500 feet (152 metres) of elevation gain, is rated easy overall but provides a good workout on the hill, taking about 1 hours and 42 minutes to complete.
Planning your visit is simple, with convenient access from North Broadway and a bike path from Quince Avenue. You'll find parking at the Wonderland Lake Trailhead, and the SKIP bus also serves the area, offering public transport options. The trail is enjoyable throughout the year, with spring wildflowers and autumn foliage adding extra beauty, but an early start is always a good idea to secure parking and enjoy the tranquility.
Beyond the scenic beauty, Wonderland Hill is notable as a hang glider and paraglider launch site, adding an exciting element to the views from the top. The Wonderland Lake area is also a designated wildlife sanctuary, providing excellent opportunities for birdwatching and nature observation. For a touch of local history, you can even access the Old Kiln Trail nearby, which leads to an old lime kiln.
