Hiking

Before the tourists were transported to the Niederwald monument by cable car (since 1954), this was done from 1884 to 1944 by a cogwheel train powered by the SAAR, a steam train with 360 hp. Today the tracks have been dismantled, but the route and a bridge still bear witness to the route through the vineyards.

Hiking

A cogwheel railway used to go up here, now a beautiful hiking trail right next to the vineyards. The great view from up here, a dream. :-)

Hiking

On this ascent, the old cogwheel trains used to go up to the Niederwald every 20 minutes. The route was 2.3 km long, the slope was about 103 per thousand.
