Hiking
Founded in the 11th century Benedictine priory of Melle belonged to about 50 km away abbey Saint-Jean-d'Angély (also highly recommended!). The former priory church St-Hilaire is a consistently richly decorated pilgrimage church. Together with the church buildings of Notre-Dame-la-Grande in Poitiers (60 km) and St-Pierre d'Aulnay (30 km), it is one of the highlights of Romanesque architecture in southwestern France.
