A memorial stone commemorates the demolition of parts of Dutzow and the Dutzow manor house. They stood too close to the border.

"Dutzow is located directly in the former border area between the GDR and the FRG. The residents had to live with considerable restrictions during the GDR era. Part of the village was demolished in the 1970s because it was too close to the border.
Also the manor house, built around 1850, was removed in 1974 for this reason."

For hundreds of meters there are pear trees along the roadside. In this October (2018) they will be abundant and the fruits will taste good. This has also gotten around among the wasps - beware

Domäne Mustin

Highlight • Historical Site

The name Mustin is of Wendish origin. The village is believed to have originated in the 12th century. A church in Mustin is mentioned for the first time in the document of Bishop Isfridur from 1194.
In the later centuries, the village and the Mustin farm experienced the fate of the entire country, the passage of imperial troops and the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War, and the occupation of the entire country by Swedish troops in 1693. The school chronicle reports that young people have been receiving lessons in Mustin since the Reformation. Sextons and pastors were the first teachers.
The First World War cost the lives of 41 soldiers from Mustin. 108 soldiers died in the Second World War. There was almost no family that was not affected, and at the beginning of 1945 the refugee groups were in front of the village. They came from Pomerania and East Prussia.

The old village of Mustin had 53 houses and around 270 residents around 1900. The influx of bombed-out people, evacuees and displaced people made the living space in Mustin too small. As a result, a completely new settlement with 31 houses was built on the edge of the forest after the war.
The economic structure of the village around 1950 was agricultural. The domain cultivates 1,100 acres of land and employs around 30 workers.
The school was rebuilt in 1951 and moved to Ratzeburg in 1974. The kindergarten is now housed in the old school building. As a result of the job creation measures at the beginning of the 1950s, the village roads were expanded.
The cultural activities in the village are mainly organized by the church, the shooting association, the sports club and the volunteer fire department. The biggest event after the war was the reunification of Germany.

Mustin Station (1908)

Highlight • Historical Site

The Ratzeburger Kleinbahn AG was founded on January 7, 1903 by the Prussian state, the Duchy of Lauenburg district, the Lauenburg State Municipal Association and the city of Ratzeburg. It operated the Ratzeburg (Land)–Klein Thurow railway line with the Dermin–Schaalseekanal-Hafen branch line.
In March 1906, construction work began on a 16 kilometer long extension from Ratzeburg Stadt via Ziethen and Mustin to Klein Thurow, then the easternmost town in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district, which has been in Mecklenburg since 1945. In order to be able to continue the railway line in a southerly direction from the city station, a dam several hundred meters long was built in the middle of the Küchensee, which is still there today and has since divided the body of water into the Great and the Little Küchensee; It is still called “Kleinbahndamm” today.
The route was officially opened on June 30, 1908. In 1910, a branch line from Dermin to the Schaalsee canal port was added, which was almost three kilometers long and initially only served freight traffic.
The decline in traffic at the end of the 1920s led to the conversion of passenger transport to buses from October 8, 1933. Since March 11, 1935, Ratzeburger Kraftverkehrs-GmbH, in which the city of Ratzeburg and the Duchy of Lauenburg district were involved, operated a city line from the Reichsbahnhof to the city and another from Ratzeburg to Gadebusch in Mecklenburg with four buses. Freight transport by rail continued until March 31, 1934. Then the company broke up; the small railway was completely demolished.

March 5, 2022,Grünes Band Tour 29.2.: zwischen Dechow - Lassahn - Entlang der Grenze SH/MV
Tour according to the tour description "Green Band - the North" from Trescher Verlag with the following adjustments:
due to the modest public transport options only as a round trip and only a section of the way between Dechow and Lassahn.
The route is very "concrete-heavy", i.e. a lot of roads and concrete paths.

A tour through the former border area of the Schaalsee region, where the "inner-German" border was crossed several times. A loop around Lake Goldensee isn't all that easy; unfortunately, there was no cross-connection north of Lake Goldensee, so we had to opt for the long route via Mustin and the B208. With beautiful sunny weather, the route ended up being …
