Zarrentin Monastery on Lake Schaalsee

The Cistercian nunnery was founded in 1246 by Countess Audacia and her son, who later became Count Gunzelin III. von Schwerin, founded. The architects, builders and preservationists entrusted with the renovation succeeded in an outstanding way in bringing old building fabric and modern requirements into a convincing synthesis. The artistically designed Gothic ribbed vaults on the ground floor are particularly interesting from an architectural point of view. A permanent exhibition is set up in the cloister, which is directly related to the monastery and its history. Guided tours in the monastery and church are intended to familiarize visitors with the details of historical developments.
