The Luzialacke – a protected landscape area

The protected part of the landscape is the remnant of a larger wetland on the western outskirts of Niedernsill. This wetland was once part of the extensively swampy valley floor of the Oberpinzgau Salzach Valley. As a moor area, the wetland biotope includes not only the Lacke itself but also litter meadows and is home to special communities of animals and plants that have become rare.

The leaves of the floating pondweed, as well as milfoil and bladderwort float in the water. The reeds consist of reeds, reed grass, water iris, purple loosestrife and loosestrife as well as other reed plants. The area is also an important habitat for birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects.

In the Stöckl-Wiese, east of the Lucia Lacke, is the only place in Pinzgau where the Siberian iris grows.
