Old Bazaar Street (Rruga e Pazarit), Berat

Pazari I Derexhikut or Kruje Bazaar is a small market with small shops mainly aimed at tourists. The bazaar was founded in the 15th century and was restored in the 1960s. Besides small tourist souvenirs, you will also find handmade art objects here.

Krujë Castle and the Old Town

Historic castle complex above Krujë, center of Skanderbeg's 15th-century defense. Within the walls lie the Skanderbeg Museum and the Dollma Tekke, with sightlines over the city and mountain flanks. The old town connects directly: narrow streets, traditional wooden shops, and the characteristic bazaar ribbon towards the castle gate.

Start of Kruja Mountain Hiking Trail

The Kruja Mountain Trail is an adventurous and steep mountain path that leads you directly from the historic center of Krujë to the rugged mountain summit. This historic path was used for centuries by pilgrims on their way to the sacred Sari Salltik cave. Expect a strenuous but rewarding climb over rocky singletracks and old stone steps. Once at the top, you will be treated to a breathtaking 'balcony view' that, in clear weather, stretches from Tirana all the way to the Adriatic Sea!

The view is not that spectacular. You mainly look at the city. It's also annoying that there is a lot of smog, which gives the photos a hazy appearance.
Remarkable is that you have an artificial path at the bottom. The higher you get, the more difficult and natural the path becomes. As is classic, the descent is the most tiring part.

Mountain spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

A sweet little spring trickling out of the mountain. A basin was built to catch it and it had a few inches of water in it along with many tadpoles. Bees could be seen visiting for a drink. A plaque was cut into the wall but I could not read it.

Sari Salltiku Temple and Cave

Highlight • Religious Site

Bektashi shrine on the plateau of Mali i Krujës, dedicated to Sari Salltiku, a wandering 13th-century dervish revered as a saint in Albania. According to tradition, he resided in the cave next to the current temple, where he retreated for prayer and meditation. The complex, at 1,150 m, forms the spiritual endpoint of the climb above Krujë, with open views over the valleys.
