The relief "Lack'mi" in Bergheim depicts a person who was persecuted for crimes or debts and found refuge in Bergheim. The original relief from 1534 disappeared in 1852 and was replaced by a new one in 1997. The person in the relief mockingly draws attention to the persecutors through their gestures.

Reichenberg Castle

The eventful history of Reichenberg Castle

It all begins here, on the Reichenberg estate, "German mountain of wealth", when in 1256, the grandson of the Duke of Lorraine had a fortified castle built. From the top of his fortress, he watches over the silver mines acquired by his grandfather.

The following centuries were punctuated by multiple succession quarrels until the castle was burned down during the Peasants' War in 1525. A period of oblivion followed where the building remained in a state of ruin. During the Revolution, the castle was even used as a quarry, its stones being used to build some of the terraces of the Bergheim vineyard.

From 1871, three successive owners who fell in love with the place began reconstruction. Even today, the current owner is passionate about this business.

During this period when many workers gathered in the cabin after a long and hard day of work, small parties were sometimes organized where people drank and danced to an improvised track. At the beginning of the 20th century, while cabins were still very useful for wine growers, they were able to serve as refuges for lovers and were often the favorite place for many couples' honeymoons...
