Ballon d'Alsace

Highlight • Natural Monument

Here René Pottier conquered the first pass of the Tour de France on July 11, 1905. The Ballon d'Alsace then remained unrivaled for five years - until the much harder passes in the Pyrenees were discovered.

At 1,247 meters, the pass is by no means the highest in the Vosges and today no one would include it on the list of important passes - but there is still a certain magic about it.

...and up to the Planche des Belles Filles. I remembered the latter as being worse, so I still had some reserves for the gravel path to the Super Planche (100 meters of elevation gain).
Rain started on the descent from the Ballon de Servance, which somewhat dampened the fun.

Arrived at 11:30 a.m. at the hotel where I intended to drop off my 8-10 kg backpack to go and do this nice warm-up course, I could read on the door of the establishment that it was closed until 'at 17 o'clock. It was an opportunity to travel my bag, and make him taste my sweat.

Nice little trip to the Vosges... board of beautiful girls quite ordinary, on the other hand big crush on the section of the balloon of Servance, wild and bucolic through the forest. Finally, the nice Alsace ball with excellent bitumen and clearance at the top, which is rare in the area! The Ballastières campsite on the edge of a pond …
