View of the Meuse and Waulsort Castle

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

From the mouth at Hoek van Holland, the Meuse Route runs along the Meuse to its source. This route is now fully signposted in both directions and takes you past nice historical places in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. The Maas was often a border river, a natural barrier to hold back enemies

Meuse Riverside Path

Highlight • Cycleway

Very nice and relaxed to cycle, especially in the upper Maas valley. There is also less industry here than in the direction of Liège.

View of Château de Dave

Highlight • Viewpoint

Dave Castle, or Fernan-Núñez Castle, is a castle located in Dave, in the commune of Namur, in the province of Namur. It consists of several buildings, the oldest of which run along the Namur-Dinant railway line, and an 18th-century castle located on the banks of the Meuse River. It is surrounded by a 7-hectare English-style park, designed by Denis and Eugène Bühler, which is home to several rare tree varieties.

The historic town of Dinant lies where the Meuse once divided the rocks of the Ardenne and left a ravine behind. Historically, because the city was once part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and was conquered around 20 times by another world power. Despite a turbulent past, the place with its fantastic location on the Meuse Valley has never lost its beauty. That's why only a few world rulers come to Dinant these days, but water sports enthusiasts and climbing enthusiasts. Vacationers can admire millennia-old rock formations that curve gracefully around the city, or go kayaking along the riverbanks. The most popular sights include the 120 meter citadel and the Norte-Dame collegiate church, which was built in the 13th century. Last but not least, the city also has good taste in music. Jazz is particularly popular here - because the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax, was born here.

June 3, 2025,Loop from Profondeville to Dinant
I'll let you admire these photos taken along the Meuse, from Profondeville to Dinant. Without 'comments'. The bike ride along the Meuse is pleasant. The city of Dinant is magnificent, you be the judge. It was also in this Walloon city that the saxophone was invented by a Belgian named Adolphe Sax. 😀
Be careful that we made 3 mistakes because we couldn't find the exit of the Jardins d'Annevoie, which explains our back and forth! Exit at node 56!

Only one route was recorded. The return journey offers completely new views. In Dinant, a visit to the citadel is also worthwhile.
