Forester’s house in the forest

Highlight • Mountain Hut

In my opinion, this hut is a kind of forester's house. But we've never seen a forester there ...

The Gasthaus zum Adler in Bermatingen, a municipality in the Bodensee district in Baden-Württemberg, was built in 1596. The inn at Markdorfer Strasse 1, a striking urban location at the intersection of Autenweiler Strasse, Salemer Strasse and Markdorfer Strasse, is a protected cultural monument.
The two-storey half-timbered house with living area and economy is eaves-lined to Markdorfer Straße. The abbot's coat of arms bears the year 1596 on the former feudal estate with tavern of the Salem monastery. The threshing floor is partially plastered and the gables are clapboard.
The tavern has a magnificent portal on the eaves side facing the street with an abbot's coat of arms in the gable. The half-timbered building with a simple structure with uprights and curved foot braces is the oldest half-timbered house in Bermatingen.
The Gasthaus zum Adler, together with the town hall and the Einhaushof Autenweiler Straße 1, forms the center of the town and is therefore characteristic of the townscape.
