Wiepke Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Around 1600, the church was significantly destroyed in a fire. It required the new construction of the bell tower of the tower. A little later, the roof ridge was set on the pitched roof. The choir's groin vault was also destroyed by the fire. In 1602 it was replaced by a wooden coffered ceiling richly painted with geometric shapes.
Around 1750, the church was redesigned according to the taste of the baroque. The narrow Romanesque arched windows in the choir and nave have been enlarged. They are designed today in the style of classicism with plaster and plaster band below the eaves. The entrance was moved to the north side of the tower. Originally, the nave and tower were connected by two arcades in a round arch, which rested on a common center column. On the north side is still a priest's door, which is preserved in its original design. Also on this page is in the side of the ship a walled arched portal can be seen.
In 1842, a baroque organ was purchased, which presumably was previously in the Gutskirche of Isenschnibbe. Around 1900, the two windows on the eastern wall were given a new lead glazing. In one picture is Moses with the 10 commandments, on the other Christ after the resurrection.
After 1990 there was an extensive renovation and restoration of the church.
The village church Wiepke is a stop on the Romanesque Road.

Isenschnibbe Castle

Highlight • Castle

Isenschnibbe Castle, located on the northeastern edge of Gardelegen, looks back on a turbulent history. Originally founded in the 10th century as a state castle, it was owned by the von Alvensleben family from 1378 to 1857. In 1905, the Bloch von Blottnitz family acquired the property; among other things, they donated a town hall door in Gardelegen, which can still be seen today. In 1939, the castle passed into the possession of the Prince of Lippe, who never personally visited it. After the Second World War, the castle changed hands several times and gradually fell into disrepair. The castle is currently privately owned, and little progress has been made in its renovation.

Schinkelkirche Schenkenhorst

Highlight • Religious Site

The Schenkenhorst church was originally probably a small half-timbered building, which was destroyed by repeated lightning strikes. The present church was built in 1872 in the neo-romantic style. From the old church remained preserved the tomb and the coffins contained there.
The interior design of the church was kept deliberately simple, outweighing light and brightness.
The baroque baptismal font is the oldest piece of equipment in the church. Just like a hinged Schmitzaltar this still belongs to the inventory of the previous building.
Since 1990, numerous renovations (roofs, windows) were carried out, 2005 was the color redesign of the interior. Since 2001, the building is a listed building.
Another special feature is the organ, which is one of the largest in the district Gardelegen. Since 2001, the community has been intensively involved with the restoration of the organ, which was then carried out in 2012 with the help of numerous donations, charity events and public funding. Since this repair, numerous concerts are held annually.
As part of a NABU project, since 2013 the tower of the Schenkenhorst church has become a habitat for swifts, kestrels and bats.
