Sonnenhof Freinberg Linz

Highlight • Rest Area

The Sonnenhof Linz is a Vinzenz community that operates two senior citizens' homes in Linz: the Sonnenhof Freinberg and the Sonnenhof Lenaupark. The Vincentian Community is a Catholic lay organization that provides care and support for old, sick and people in need of care.
The Sonnenhof Freinberg is located at the foot of the Freinberg in the middle of the countryside and offers its residents their own therapy pool, an in-house kitchen and a beautiful view of the city. The Sonnenhof Lenaupark is centrally located in the city center and offers its residents the opportunity to go on short excursions and go shopping. Both houses have 130 or 128 care places and offer various offers and activities for seniors.

Stupa Linz

Highlight • Religious Site

Here in the public park on Linz's Freinberg there has been a stupa since 2013, an ancient archetypal symbol for the fully realized or "awakened" spirit, completed by the Friends of Diamond Way Buddhism Linz.

"The intention of the builders is to increase peace, happiness, freedom and harmony for all living beings who come in contact with or see the stupa."

Arboretum of the City of Linz

Highlight • Natural

As early as 1853, the Jesuit priest J. N. Hinteröcker created a botanical garden with 610 genera and 1,914 species on the southwestern slopes of the Freinberg, which was closed 18 years later.

In its current form, this public green area (approx. 8 hectares) has been looked after by the city of Linz since 1958. Many paths, such as the Sonnenpromenade, the Maximilianweg, Bancalariweg, etc.) lead through the area with a collection of around 700 species of trees (labeled) from all over the world. Here you will find a wide variety of ground conditions, including rocks, and, among other things, seating, play and sports equipment, the Buddhist stupa and the Johannes Kepler Observatory.

There is interesting and detailed information about Aboretum here: botanischergarten.linz.at/7430.php

A wonderful place to walk or relax!

Probeturm and Maximilianskapelle

Highlight • Historical Site

In 1828, Archduke Maximilian I had the so-called test tower built on the Freinberg – blasting tests and test bombardments were carried out here. After the completion of the final tower line at a greater distance from Linz, the test tower was no longer needed. Maximilian had two floors added and the Maximilian Chapel built next to it. In 1837 he gave the tower and chapel to the Jesuits. Today the tower is part of the Kollegium Aloisianum, a Catholic private school.

Opposite the street you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city center.
