Ebrach Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

great RR destination. There is plenty of food and culture on site! easy to reach e.g. from Bamberg (approx. 40 km of best RR paths)

The former Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach is a popular destination. With its wonderful rosette, the Gothic church and the castle-like baroque monastery are one of the regional highlights that are well worth seeing

The Cistercian Abbey of Ebrach was probably the most important place for the intellectual and colonization development of the western Bamberg region and the entire Steigerwald region. In the depths of the Steigerwald, which they reclaimed, monks practically created a Romanesque and from 1200 the most magnificent early Gothic building in Germany in the depths of the Steigerwald, as the art historian Konrad Dehio judged. Generous foundations and support from the Staufer kings allowed the new foundation to flourish and prosper. In the 18th century, the Ebrach monastery was fundamentally redesigned by Leonhard Dientzenhofer into a castle-like baroque complex, fortunately the Gothic church with its wonderful rose window remained. In 1803 the monastery was secularized. The wonderful wooded surroundings of the Steigerwald and the historical past of this site of monastic culture made Ebrach a popular attraction.

Burgwindheim Castle

Highlight • Castle

nice place on the bike path to Ebrach. However, there are some confusing crossings at the passage of the place. This is why you should be particularly careful when you pass through the racing bike quickly.

Burgebrach Town Hall and Town Gate

Highlight • Historical Site

Burgebrach had three goals. Under the tenure of Mayor Schlegler arose from 1720 onwards
the same place where the "Upper Gate" once was, today's town hall. According to the plans of
Nattermüller, it was built over a three-year construction period. Lighter by the construction load of 350 guilders
To be able to pay, the community imposed a special tax on local Jews at the time.
When Napoleon marched against Russia with his army, he held a council of war in the town hall.

pretty town in the Steigerwald on the rough Ebrach. Sights cf.

Interesting for racing cyclists because various high-end routes (e.g. Bamberg Ebrach) cross here. Worth seeing old town with refreshment point for cyclists (doner kebab, pizza, drinks)
