"In the picturesque town on the Rhine, many well-kept half-timbered houses characterize the townscape. Worth seeing are the Jakobs chapel with its frescoes and the moated castle with Wingert and rose garden. The Martins church also invites you to quiet contemplation. Liebeneck Castle greets you from above.

One of the best Middle Rhine winegrowers has his estate with a bar in Osterspai. In summer, the offshore sandbank at the "Engen Türchen" is a destination for many sun-seeking bathers."

"... The value and importance of the Marksburg primarily lies in its complete preservation as a medieval fortification. For many visitors, it is the epitome of a medieval castle. Its exposed location on a rocky cone 90 meters above the town of Braubach contributes to this.
The imposing fortress with buildings mainly from the 13th to 15th centuries is staggered with a keep, several buildings, kennels and bastions. The typical interiors such as the castle kitchen, knight's hall, bower, chapel, armoury, wine cellar, battlements and tower rooms are particularly worth seeing. They give insights into medieval life. A curiosity in the knight's hall is the so-called chandelier. It is a chandelier made of antlers, in the middle of which sits a half-length female figure.
The Lords of Eppstein built the fortifications from 1231 to protect the nearby silver mines. The Marksburg was known as Braubach Castle until the 16th century. The castle changed hands several times as a fiefdom. When the Counts of Katzenelnbogen died out, Marksburg Castle fell to the Hessian Landgraves.
Later, the castle complex no longer met the high aristocratic living standards of modern times, so that the residence Schloss Philippsburg was built in the valley. ..."
