Ohe near Börger

Highlight • River

At this point you cross the Ohe over large stones, so you need a little surefootedness. At high tide, when the stones are flooded, a crossing may not be possible.

Heimathaus Börger

Highlight • Historical Site

The Heimathaus only “moved” to this location in 1986. It used to be in a different place and was a residential and farm building for Walkemüller and hired workers for two hundred years. Today it is used extensively by groups and clubs. A collection of historical household and agricultural implements is to be permanently exhibited in an extension.

The cross on the Esch served as a destination for processions for many centuries. Here is a nice place to stay. Take some time and enjoy the wonderful view of the surrounding area.

Männige Berge burial mound field

Highlight • Historical Site

The Männige Berge are a burial mound field that emerged north of Spahnharrenstätte between 1300 BC and the turn of the century (during the Younger Bronze and Pre-Roman Iron Ages). They are called “Männige Berge” because of their large number or because of the previously widespread idea that “Männeken”, i.e. dwarves, lived in them.

Nice hike, between Ohe and the old Loruperweg there were a few fallen trees on the trail from the last summer storm. But it wasn't a problem and apparently it's just being cleared away.
In Börger there has been a small house with catering "Lübbers Hüsken" since March 2023. Ideal for a break and to refill the energy storage

Hümmlingpfad 5/15 "Ohetal Circuit"
Once again you are on the way on paths worth seeing.
Around Börger, it leads along a variety of paths, on stepping stones through the Ohe, past Bronze Age burial mounds and with a wonderfully quiet rest area under the hundred-year-old Spaner beech. Along the parallel parts of the Hünenweg, the Friesenweg and the Hümmlinger pilgrimage …

Past the Heimathaus Börger and the lively church made of wickerwork, after crossing the Ohe you reach the woodland around the Klingenberg. Small boulders from the last ice age accompany you to the legendary Männige Berge: a burial mound that served as a burial place for over 1300 years. Even today, 61 heather-covered hills bear witness to the importance of …

So, that was the third of the 14 new Hümling paths. A beautiful, varied tour. Unfortunately, many of the paths were extremely dry and therefore difficult to walk. Nevertheless, I can recommend the route unreservedly.

Another fantastic hike on the Hümmling paths is the Ohetal circuit. This hike leads through great forests and meadows between Börger and Spahnharrenstätte. You can enjoy the silence of the unique nature on the entire circuit.

I started the Ohetal circuit from Börger. I added the Spaahner Buche, which is a beautiful resting place, and the Hedwigstein. So the path led even longer through forests.
