Sant Cristòfol de Monteugues Hermitage

Highlight • Religious Site

Sant Cristòfol de Monteugues is a Romanesque hermitage that is between La Garriga and El Figaró (Vallès Oriental), near Tagamanent and Pla de la Calma. Belongs to the Valls del Figaró farmhouse.
It already existed safely in 1021, when it was documented in writing, and in 1139 it was assigned, as a suffragan church of the parish of Sant Esteve de la Garriga, in the monastery of Santa Maria de l'Estany.
The legend says it was built by Lluís I el Pietós (the son of Charlemagne) when he was going to conquer Barcelona; the emperor would have won a battle with the Saracens in a nearby place (Pla de la Batalla) and in commemoration he built the hermitage.
On the day of Sant Cristòfol (July 10) there was an assembly organized by the owners of the Valls farmhouse to which the hermitage belongs. Cars and horses were blessed by the rector of the town of Figaró, a mass was called and then a sting was made. During the Mass the Glorious Goigs of San Cristóbal were sung.

Roca Centella Summit

Highlight • Summit

La Roca Centella is a 1,001 meter mountain located in the Montseny Natural Park, between the municipalities of Cànoves i Samalús, Figaró and Tagamanent, in the Vallès Oriental region. It is one of the highest mountains in the area of La Garriga.

There is a legend based on the treasures hidden in natural spaces that mentions the Centella Rock or Centelles Rock: The belief says that on the Tagamanent road there is a rock called Centella, which when midnight arrives opens and leaves the passage free for the person who feels brave enough to ignore a snake that opens its mouth an inch and lets out chilling roars. Inside the Twinkle Rock there is an incalculable treasure that can be easily taken, but only during the brief time in which the twelve strokes of midnight sound, after which the rock closes again until next year at the same time, leaving the imprisoned person if he does not come out on time.

Very fun descent of 682 m in which the difficulty lies in a large number of closed curves and very tight passes between trees. It also has some stone steps that are not too complicated.

In Trailforks it is listed as Red, but on a personal level and being my average level in downhill trails, I would put it Blue.

In Trailforks it is called Roc de Centelles 2/2, although it is also known by the name Tsunami.

Vallfigueres Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

The source is located within the Montseny Natural Park, located on the left bank of the Font de Vallfigueres stream and about 200 meters south-east in a straight line from the Vallfigueres house that gives it its name. In a path that leaves the Vallfigueres path, we find an iron spout that springs up and supplies water to the Torrent de la Font de Vallfiguera.

To get there you can go from Cànoves in the direction of La Garriga along the BP-5107 road. At approximately kilometer point 38.8 we leave the access to the farm of Can Messeguer on the left (nowadays a riding school) and only a hundred meters further on we find a forest track that leaves on the right, barred to unauthorized motorized traffic . We can park the vehicle here, as there is space for two or three cars on the side of the road.

The Promenade

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The most significant urban, social, and economic changes in the history of La Garriga revolve around the Paseo.

At the end of the 19th century, the town became a magnet for Barcelona's bourgeoisie, who found it a peaceful and pleasant place to spend the summer. The large summer resort area, full of large bourgeois towers, has the Paseo as its central axis.

Begun in 1878 and stretching over a kilometer, the Paseo is still the ideal place for a leisurely stroll and a deep dive into the relaxed, luxurious world of the bourgeoisie 100 years ago. At the same time, it is a prime example of the transformation of historic rural areas into new urbanized spaces, responding to very different social and economic needs.
