The old Walser village of Splügen is nestled beautifully in the Rheinwald valley. It has retained much of its original charm, being more of a transit place than a major tourist destination. Despite this, it offers a good range of accommodation options and restaurants. It also has a quiet campsite.
If you're already here, you should definitely try Capuns - the Graubünden specialty made of spaetzle dough wrapped in chard leaves. Delicious!

The southern Swiss town of Splügen was and is a typical mountain pass village. Then as now, merchants, artists and tourists stopped here before continuing on their way north or south. Before the construction of the Bernardino and Gotthard tunnels, the Splügen Pass was the only direct transfer route to the south.
