Statue in Devil's Hole Pond

Highlight • Monument

Locals had told me the devil had moved from the cave to the pub (The Priority Inn). However, he is so well camouflaged here that I almost missed him ... 😈

From Devil' Hole to Les Landes there are many beautiful views and interesting spots, eg Île Agois, La Câtel Fort plus the Round Tower and the Barracks in Grève de Lecq, Plémont Bay - for swimming, Grosnez Castle plus remains of "Batterie Moltke", an Army Coastal Artillery Regiment, with bunkers, canons and last but not least "Le Pinacle", a 60 m menhir, where worshipping took place from as early as the Neolithic ages. Les Landes has become a sanctuary for wildlife and plants, being the largest of all protected areas on Jersey with 160 ha.

Grève de Lecq Tower and Beach

Highlight • Historical Site

The defences at Grève de Lecq reached their peak in the early 19th century in direct response to a potential invasion by Napoleon. As a result the bay was further protected by Le Câtel Fort and Battery, Middle Battery, Valle du Fort Battery and a Round Tower. Manning these substantial defences required many troops and subsequently the construction of Grève de Lecq Barracks began in 1810. The Barracks was designed to accommodate up to 250 garrison troops stationed in the Island and it formed an integral part of the Island’s defence strategy for the north coast. Agois Island

Highlight • Natural

This is "L'île Agois", off the north coast, 750 m west of Devil's Hole.

This small island was excavated in the 1950's and the 1970's. Large quantities of Iron Age pottery were found from a time when the island was probably still connected to mainland Jersey. The hollow remains of 27 circular huts and 2 rectangular buildings were found on the slopes and summit. the site might have included a small community of hermit monks. Source: prehistoricjersey.net
