Chochołowska Valley Mountain Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

This shelter, opened in 1953, is located on Polana Chochołowska at an altitude of 1146m. You can eat here and stay overnight (smoking is not allowed). It is a great base for trips to the Western Tatras.

View of Chochołowska Valley

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is one of the rare paths where dogs are allowed in the Tatra National Park (on the Polish side). There are parking lots and from there, it is a 7-8km long walk (one way). You walk in a valley along a small river. At the end, there is a hut with toilets, drinks and food.

A great base for trips to the Western Tatras. This shelter on Mała Polanka Ornaczańska in the upper part of the Kościeliska Valley (it is at an altitude of 1100m above sea level) has a kitchen and rooms. And those views!

Written Fell

Highlight • Natural

A former shepherd's pasture. In 1960, 250 sheep were grazed here, but then it stopped.

From here, you can admire the peaks and mighty mountains, such as Zdziary Pisaniarskie, Zbójecka Turnia and Stoły.

There are tables and benches for tourists, so you can also rest.

The Kościeliska Valley isn't worth recommending; it's overcrowded. However, it's worth doing a little reading before crossing the border. For example, there's information about the Ice Spring, the love-struck trees, the teddy bears in Kościeliska, the Loria Chamber, and a few other interesting facts.

Chochołowska Valley

Highlight • Gorge

The Chochołowska Valley is the largest and longest valley in Poland’s Tatra Mountains, stretching 10 kilometers. Known for its scenic beauty, it features dense spruce forests, alpine meadows, and a deep gorge with dramatic narrows. Popular for hiking and cycling, the main trail leads to the PTTK Mountain Shelter on the Chochołowska Clearing. In spring, the valley transforms into a vibrant sea of crocuses, drawing many visitors. It also preserves its shepherding heritage, with traditional cheese-making still practiced.

A "High Tatra Relaxation Walk" that becomes increasingly challenging from 1/3 of the length. Whether up or down, to the Ornak hut, about 2/3 of the way. There you can strengthen yourself excellently and from here the walk continues along the stream with refreshing, rushing water, relaxed. A highly recommended route.
