Esk Pike

Highlight • Natural Monument

The rocky terrain on Esk Pike is brilliant fun to run, and the views down into Langdale and up towards the Scafells are all amazing.

Esk Pike, at 2,904 feet (885 m), is part of the Langdale Horseshoe fell race, the Bob Graham Round and the Joss Naylor Challenge route.

Bowfell

Highlight • Climb

Muscular and feature-packed, Bowfell must rank among England’s very best. Commanding prime real estate over three popular valleys – Great Langdale, Langstrath and Eskdale – it looks magisterial from all angles, rising as a gigantic pyramid that demands respect and admiration. Take the climber’s traverse up the Great Slab for superlative rock-scenery.

Crinkle Crags

Highlight • Summit

Crinkle Crags is a mountain hiker's playground! A great jumble of rocks with multiple summits, the whole ridge between Great Knott and Bowfell is great fun to explore. You can make the scrambles as hard or as easy as you like. The Wainwright summit is 'Long Top' which is 2,818 feet (859 m) in height and marked by a cairn.

The Bad Step (Crinkle Crags)

Highlight • Viewpoint

The 'Bad Step' on Crinkle Crags is a small scramble alongside two large chockstones that block a gully leading to the summit of Long Top. It is not a difficult scramble but is very steep (near vertical) and only a couple of metres of any real exposure. An alternative path exists around either side (left being the safer) so there is no need to do the scramble to summit the mountain from this direction.

Little Stand

Highlight • Summit

Little Stand is one of the quieter Nuttalls. It is a 740-metre (2,428-foot) peak and has a small cairn at the top. I didn't have much of a view here when I hiked it, but it has a gorgeous petite tarn here (Little Stand Tarn). The paths out and back towards Crinkle Crags are defined and easy enough to follow.
