Steep Singletrack Climb from the River Wye to Wyedale

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Route from the Monsal Trail onto the Pennine Bridleway up a steep hill! Great riding when you get to the top!
Not recommended for cycling down as steep with very steep dropoffs. Can be cycled up if you have the right gears and legs.

Monk's Dale

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

Monk’s Dale is like something from a fairytale. The upper section is a moss-covered jumble of rocks and trees. While hard underfoot, it’s extremely atmospheric. It opens up into a typical limestone valley grassland that bursts into a riot of colour in spring as wildflowers blossom. In April and May, the dale erupts into a chorus of birdsong. That said, you’ll find hikes here enjoyable in any season.

East Buxton Lime Kilns

Highlight • Monument

At a first glance from a distance these lime burning ovens look like the remainders of a bit strangely designed bridge. You can get in to understand better how they worked.

Tip by

10.9 km

Crystal clear waters, so clean in fact that there are brown trout in the river.

River Wye Stepping Stones

Highlight • River

The stepping stones are often submerged so plan your visit when the water level is low. Getting to them with a bike is a bit challenging (a few tall steps and a narrow path) but the view is rewarding. The almost crystal clear water with a hint of turquoise colour adds beauty to the place.

Tip by

7

12.2 km

Decent walk with a good mix of terrain and surroundings. Wet day so footing was often slippy, so take care in some of the trickier sections.

Chee Dale Stepping Stones

Highlight • Structure

Check the water levels before you go - it's a long walk back if the water is over the tops of the stones
