Hyllige Born and the Wandelhalle, Bad Pyrmont

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Hyllige Born is the architectural center of Bad Pyrmont and is reminiscent of the heyday of the world baths on the Emmer.

The main avenue is not only the central axis of the spa town of Bad Pyrmont, it is also considered one of the oldest spa parks in Germany.

It begins to the north at Brunnenplatz (Fountain Square), where the Hyllige Born – Pyrmont's oldest healing spring – bubbles up in a twelve-columned fountain temple in front of the Wandelhalle (Promenade Hall). This square, where the Brodelbrunnen (Bubbling Fountain) is also located, is the heart and symbol of Bad Pyrmont. In summer, the palm trees among the historic, light-colored buildings create a unique Mediterranean flair.

This delightful fountain forms the lower end of the main avenue. As early as 1667, Count Georg Friedrich von Waldeck and Pyrmont had the 30-meter-wide axis laid out as a baroque double avenue to the Hylligen Born and planted with oaks. However, these were replaced by linden trees three years later, as the oaks on the tufa ground did not thrive. The alley, which is now a listed building, leads past the spa gardens to Brunnenplatz.

Highlight • Castle

Pyrmont Castle with its impressive square moat was once the residence of the Count of Spiegelberg and now houses a museum. An imposing building from the outside too.

The Strawberry Temple is a circular building that stands on a three-tiered base. The dome is supported by eight columns. Above the capitals there are bas-relief pieces depicting flower wreaths, held by a fluttering crinkle ribbon bow. On the dome there is a bowl with a standing dolphin as a crown.

Near the Strawberry Temple there used to be a grave monument commemorating Mrs. Fagel, a rich Dutch woman. She died on July 15, 1781 after eating strawberries during her treatment and then drinking fountains. Today the Strawberry Temple stands at the former burial site.

The original temple was built between 1786 and 1790 and remodeled in 1802. The current form is a redesign from 1910.

Tour through the beautiful town of Bad Pyrmont 😍

Showing Translation

Today I took a short walk through wintry, Christmassy Bad Pyrmont. A really lovely tour. 😍 It was a tour against world hunger, on the way to a Christmas miracle. 🥰

We had actually planned a route through the garden park, but it was fenced off and it turned out that our starting point was in the wrong place. So we walked around the outside of the park and then unexpectedly ended up on the castle island and visited the museum. Entry per person was 4 euros. Later, when we passed …

It's 36°C and getting hotter. Pyrmont is a fantastic place. Magnificent buildings and gardens. Especially the palace🏰 and the Palmengarten🌴. Unfortunately, we had to cut our stay short again. But it was simply unbearable🥵.
