Old Coach Road (Macclesfield to Buxton)

This is the old coach road which used to run between Macclesfield and Buxton. It's still clad in its 18th century road surface, so it's pretty easy going on a mountain bike.

The road's been there a lot longer than that, though. It's since been superseded for auto traffic by the A537, which is less steep.

Simply super! Probably best from east to west... a tough little climb to get to the traverse, then it's great views and, after rain, man-eating puddles, then a fast descent on bumpy bedrock with no hidden surprises.
