Sauerbrunnen Spring Böhmisch Fischern

Highlight • Natural Monument

In the valley of the Eger, surrounded by untouched nature lies on the Czech side a sour well. The mineral spring is a "Eisenhaltiger Säuerling" and is probably related to the nearby Carolinenquelle on the Bavarian side at the foot of Hohenberg.

Ruins of Böhmisch-Fischern Village

Highlight • Historical Site

The community of Fischern had a turbulent fate. It is an old village that was already mentioned at the beginning of the 14th century. It was divided into the Czech and German parts after the formation of the final border between Austria-Hungary and Bavaria in the mid-19th century. The Czech part of the village consisted of only 7 homesteads, including an inn and a mill with a hydroelectric power plant. A bridge crossed the border river Eger. The inhabitants of both parts of the community were exclusively German. In 1945 all residents of Bohemian Fishermen left their homes and fled across the bridge to Bavaria. Shortly thereafter, the bridge was demolished. The abandoned Bohemian part stood until 1950. In 1951 all the remaining buildings were blown up. The foundation walls of the houses can still be seen today.

Eger Floodplains

Highlight • River

The Eger should unfold its true ecological potential again in the coming years near Hohenberg. The water management office has therefore started with conversions. Here the water lies flat in the bed of the Mühlkanal - and therefore fish cannot find their way upstream. Therefore, the Eger should soon form a new loop near Hohenberg and the water will then dig its own way. Old fortifications are being removed along the banks and new trees are being planted, giving the watercourse more shade – which certain species of fish need.

Hammermühle Border Crossing

Highlight • Bridge

Here at the foot of Hohenberg on the Eger is the border crossing Hammer mill in Egertal, which is used by hikers and cyclists. In addition to interesting information boards is also a rest area with tables and benches, and the preaching chair at this point. With an attached QR-code further information can be called up.

This mosaic work of art was made by Christina Buchwald from the mosaic studio "Flies(s)ende Kunst" in Hohenberg/Eger. It stands on a bench on the Egerweg.

Carolinenquelle Mineral Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

In the year 1799 the filling in sour water bottles was mentioned for the first time. In 1929, the city built a fountain house with a bottling plant after the bottling and shipping of the healing water in so-called sour fountain jugs had ceased around the middle of the 19th century and several attempts to use the spring had failed.
The mineral water was now being shipped as healing water/table water and Schlossbergriesling. Between 1929 and 1945, Hohenberger Sprudel was sold far beyond the national borders. From 1945, the mineral water sales were leased to different companies until finally in 1975 the operation was completely stopped due to a lack of profitability.

At the border crossing on the "Path of Encounter" is the work "Encounter of the EU", i.e. the two letters "EU", made of Kösseine and Flossenbürger granite. In the meantime, someone has overturned the U and thus changed the work of art.
There is also the joint work "Children's and Youth Obelisk", which was made of Waldstein granite.
