In 1816, Captain Otto von Arnim bought the Criewen estate, which had existed for centuries. He had the manor house, which is also located in the park today, built in Criewen, and he commissioned Peter Joseph Lenné to create a landscape park. The old village had to give way and was rebuilt further east. So today only the church stands at the old village site.
The small stone church dates from the 13th century. This church burned down in the Thirty Years' War and was rebuilt from 1682 to 1692.
