there are two ways to get here - one way is up the main road with traffic, the other way we used today via Ingelby Greenhow is a little steeper but much quieter traffic. lovely views and plenty of bird life strutting their stuff

Urra Moor is the highest of the North York Moors, with Round Hill marking the summit.

Other than fellow walkers, there's a chance you'll bump into archaeologists up on the moor. This specific area is home to a number of prehistoric remains, including barrows and carved stones, some with cup and ring carvings.

Spectacularly situated at one of the highest points in the North York Moors National Park, the Lion is a 16th-century inn that serves good food and offers bed and breakfast accommodation. Occupying an elevated perch at 1,325 feet (404 m) on Blakey Ridge, the inn enjoys excellent views of Rosedale and Farndale. It's a marvellously remote objective for any walk on the beautiful moors.

Bloworth Crossing

Highlight • Viewpoint

Bloworth Crossing used to be a railway crossing. The railway line (carrying iron ore) ran from Battersby to Rosedale for 11 miles. These days, it is a cycling and walking/hiking heaven. Easy, comfortable tracks to ride on with preposterously beautiful views in just about any direction your heart directs you to look at!

A punishing ascent from Clay Bank car park. Old stone path makes for slightly easier footing, although be careful if descending at speed, can be a bit slippery.

This day is remembered for its constant, strong wind. After a very restless night in an exposed location at the Lion Inn, I somehow packed up my tent in the morning in the wind with some problems and between several showers. I almost lost the new tent to a thistle. The wind chilled me so much that I wished I …
