Allendale Road

Highlight • Cycleway

Can be prone to strong prevailing westerly winds and the council have neglected the potholes so alright on a mountain bike but not always so great on a road bike if lots of traffic on the road which is usually the case as it is a well used main road between Hexham and Allendale! a bit Easier usually travelling Allendale to Hexham rather than the other direction as winds generally west to east!

Elrington Threepwood Gravel Track

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

Although this segment was fairly challenging on a Giant Toughroad due to lack of suspension.

I think it is fair to say that on any decent MTB (even my much loved Avalanche GT 2.0) this would have been a piece of cake, with the Threepwood segment being even more fun as this is a windy downhill segment with plenty scope for small aerials and coasting!

Newbrough Town Hall

Highlight • Other

Newbrough Town Hall is a distinctive community building in the village of Newbrough, Northumberland, situated on the historic Stanegate Roman Road. Built in 1878 in the Italianate style and donated by Jane Todd as a gift to the village community, it is now a Grade II listed building and a vibrant hub for local events, concerts, and gatherings. With its elegant façade, clock tower, and spacious function rooms, it hosts everything from badminton to weddings – a vibrant heart of the village, rooted in history. Newbrough itself promotes itself as the gateway to the Northumberland National Park.

Tyne Riverside Country Park Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

Both a walking route and part of the Hadrian's Cycleway spanning the country, this section close to the market town of Hexham along the River Tyne is both useful and peaceful. Watch out when the water level is high. The larger park covers 200 acres of the banks of the river, meadows, chalk grassland and woodland.

Check out the Park website for more details on local events held here: northumberland.gov.uk/Local/Country-parks-visitor-centres-coastal-sitesPubl/Tyne-Riverside-Country-Park.aspx

Wentworth Leisure Centre

Highlight • Rest Area

Great Place to either start your tour if you need to stock up on refreshments at Waitrose or otherwise perhaps a few lengths in the pool to stretch out after your hike, run or cycle! Also a great meeting place to socialise with like minded individuals. The Hexham Harriers often meet here befoer or after a run, there are also training facilities onsite at the leisure center for track and field events as well as a gym and sports massage facilites. Yoga is another activity available via a private instructor who operates from one of the studio spaces in the leisure centre. Could possibly provide their contact details if anyone interested?
