Plänckner's viewpoint (Großer Beerberg)

Highlight • Viewpoint

Did you know that there were volcanoes in the Thuringian Forest? There was! The Great Beerberg was once one. These are the remnants of it and at 982.9 meters they are still impressively high - the Great Beerberg is the highest elevation of Thuringia. At the top is a rare bog, part of the biosphere reserve Vessertal-Thuringian Forest and so strictly protected that you must not enter it. After all, the Rennsteig is close by and, with a maximum height of 973 meters, is not bad either.

Beerberg Moor

Highlight • Natural

The Beerbergmoor lies on the northern slope of the Great Beerberg. Not only is the atmosphere here very special – the Beerbergmoor is even the highest in the Thuringian Forest nature reserve.

Forest Idyll on the Rennsteig

Highlight • Forest

Beautiful forest paths, easy to walk in summer, always a bit cooler than down in the valley and shady, so perfect for sporting activities 👌

Highest Point of the Rennsteig

Highlight • Summit

The highest point is a must when you are in the vicinity. An even better view is only a few meters further along the path along the viewing platform.

October 3, 2021,Rennsteiglauf Halbmarathon 2021
According to the official timekeeping 02:13:14 and thus 18 minutes faster than 2019 😊 Unfortunately, my watch missed 400m on the route; I had to quickly attach it to the finish line so that the 21.1km would be full ... so three more minutes at Komoot😪

This is my 20th participation in the Rennsteiglauf. The half marathon was fantastic, as always; time isn't a big factor for me. Just be there and enjoy.

A great day with lots of goosebumps and great people 👍😁

Today we took part in the 50th Rennsteig run on the half marathon distance in fantastic weather. As always, well organized and a fantastic landscape run, in the end we ran into the most beautiful destination in the world in Schmiedefeld 👍.

It was my 2nd half marathon after 2023.
But it was anything but good.
After the Birxstieg my thighs were already tight.
Then came the shoulder area, circulatory problems and side stitches.
I couldn't even run downhill.
So I had to hike and get to the finish line that way. 😔

"What was I thinking?" was how the day began in my mind. And yes, the first few kilometers were quite tough. But then it was really beautiful. Turning off your mind and enjoying the course was possible at times.

My utmost respect to people who dare to take on the marathon and supermarathon distances. Even the half marathon is challenging.

The 50th Rennsteiglauf is history.... and I was there.

Showing Translation

My first half marathon, incorporated into my running schedule in preparation for one, was the Rennsteig... You can do it, but you definitely have to experience it at least once... It was nice and relaxed—there was no other way to do it—from the back starting blocks, I set off from the biathlon stadium with the goal of running with the …
