Eckerlochstieg Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Very beautiful hiking trail, but also very difficult to hike. Nature lovers will get their money's worth. Good physical condition and sure footing are essential.

Knochenbrecher Curve (Brocken Road)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The term "bones breaker curve" for the top road traffic of the Brocken road dates back to the time of the horse carts. Before the construction of the Brockenstraße (this has existed since at least 1849), the driveway led from the current road curve with shelter very steeply directly to the Brocken Plateau. Due to the difficult terrain, the horses often broke their legs here. Hence the name "Knochenbrecherweg".

Brocken Railway Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The HSB (Harzer Schmalspurbahnen) have parked a (red) tank car with extinguishing water on the Brocken for possible accidents. The wagon stands on a trolley, in winter it goes into the valley.
This tank car was only in Drei Annen Hohne and was subsequently marked by the HSB.
It is used solely for the extinguishing agent reserve and is shut down again in winter.

The Brockenwirt Restaurant

Highlight • Restaurant

The first way in winter is always to an old analog thermometer, because there is one hanging here!

Brocken Hotel

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The food is great, the breakfast bombastic, what more could you ask for. In the evening, when the last train has left, you are almost all alone up here and have the chunks for you. It is exhilaratingly beautiful, if you get as creamy as I had it.

Wolkenhäuschen with Goethe memorial

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Our shelters in the Harz National Park are usually located in places worth seeing and are therefore popular hiking destinations. They serve as a short-term rest and break option and as protection in the event of bad weather. Overnight stays are only permitted in an emergency. In the interest of everyone, whether human or animal, our shelters must be kept clean.

Harz Witches' Trail

Highlight • Trail

The long-distance hiking trail leads from west to east through the Harz Mountains in five stages. It goes, among other things, on the Brocken and through the spectacular Bodetal Gorge.

I can only recommend the Hexenstieg to everyone. Wonderful hike. If you don't want to cover the whole route, you can also tackle individual sections.
