Chapel of Asseburg Castle

Highlight • Religious Site

Asseburg Castle is now the Heliosklinik.

The chapel was not only intended for the Sunday service, but also as a burial place for those from Asseburg.

In 1528 August von der Asseburg built this church in honor of the holy divine word "and his burials." This is what it says on the plaque in the chapel, which commemorates the first service there on the 1st of Advent 1582.

The place for the burial place was initially in the choir room under the altar. There are grave monuments on the floor and on the walls of the choir, but also everywhere in the church. The coffins themselves are in the tomb.

At some point, however, this was no longer sufficient, so that the crypt was relocated to the outside and an extension was built on the church, which was only accessible from the choir. This too became so narrow over time that the coffins had to be stacked, as you can see in the pictures.

If you want to catch a glimpse of this crypt, it is best to look through the western (tower-side) ventilation hole.

Aller Spring, Eggenstedt

Highlight • River

If you want to ride the Allerradweg completely, you need at least two of the many springs.
The water outlet is not visible on this, but the associated building has a beautiful relief on the base.
PS: There is no catering, self-caterers can use the space well for a break.
