Oil deposits in Hademstorf

At a depth of 1000 m beneath Hademstorf there is an oil deposit that is one of the smallest in northern Germany. It was formed under a salt dome overhang. This oil deposit was created when chalk was dragged up by the salt rise. In this part, under the so-called salt dome transition, oil has accumulated in the pore space of a sandstone.

A total of 160,000 tons of oil was extracted from these oil deposits between 1941 and 1970. Oil was also extracted from other deposits in villages in the area, such as Eilte and Ahrensheide.

Today's route was actually quite a crap as a hiking route; along country and main roads and on lengthy bike paths. However, the impressions were so great that you could overlook them. And there was nothing to be seen of the announced dreary weather. 95% of the snow had already thawed away and more than a few individual drops did …

Hodenhagen also had some lovely spots to offer, including an old village center with lots of half-timbered houses. Then I crossed to the other side of the Aller River, and after a short hike, the beautiful half-timbered …
