Village Church Kirch Kogel

Highlight • Religious Site

The church village of Kirch Kogel was first mentioned on March 31, 1303.[1] In 1435, the Dobbertin monastery acquired the village.

When the ruling Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Henry IV, granted the patronage of Kirch Kogel to the Provest Mathias von Weltzin of the Dobbertin monastery on October 18, 1440, this church was expressly mentioned as belonging to Kerk Kowalk, located in the bailiwick of Cracow.[2] In 1445, the parish of Kirch Kogel included not only the Wendisch Kogel (today Rum Kogel), which was described as deserted, but also the parish villages of Reimershagen, Suckwitz and the heath villages of Kleesten and Jellen. In Suckwitz there was a branch chapel, which was no longer mentioned after the 17th century.

The church with its cemetery forms the center of the village and is protected by the old trees and the renewed fieldstone wall.

Schloss Alt Sammit

Highlight • Castle

The current two-storey manor house, a red brick building with 13 axes, a base made of granite blocks and a hipped roof, was built according to a design by the Wismar architect Heinrich Thormann in 1859.[17] The manor house dates from around 1860/65. The balcony under the entrance is accentuated by balusters. A row of consoles runs under the eaves and yellow bricks decorate the cornices between the floors and window reveals.[18] For static reasons, the mighty tower above the entrance in the middle of the house was demolished after 1888 during the change of ownership between Eduard Krause and Günther Ehlermann. After 1905, the manor house was given its current appearance with neo-Gothic accents through multiple renovations. The central and two side projections were given triangular gables on the courtyard side.
