Potsdam City Hall

Nauener Gate

Highlight • Monument

A landmark of Potsdam and the entrance to Potsdam's old town. If you walk through the gate, you will come in one direction to Alexandrovka (Russian Village) and in the other direction, just next to the left, to the Dutch Quarter. If you follow the street you will see the shopping street of Potsdam on the right.

Nauen Gate

Highlight • Monument

Nauen Gate Potsdam
The Nauen Gate is one of the three surviving city gates of Potsdam. It was built in 1754/1755 and is considered the first building in the neo-Gothic style in continental Europe.
In 1722, about 400 meters from today's location, the first Nauen Gate was built during the so-called 1st Baroque town expansion as one of the five town gates in the town wall. In 1733, during the II. Baroque expansion of the city, a new gate was built 20 meters in front of today's square. In 1754/1755, 20 years before the actual beginning of the neo-Gothic on the continent, the architect Johann Gottfried Büring designed the Nauen Gate in Potsdam, based on a sketch by King Friedrich II. In 1867-1869 this gate was rebuilt by King Wilhelm I into its present form.

St. Peter and Paul Church, Potsdam

Highlight • Religious Site

The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul is centrally located in Potsdam's city center and closes the Brandenburger Straße to the east, at the western end of which stands the Potsdam Brandenburg Gate. The current church was completed in 1870 and served equally the Potsdam parish (which today belongs to the Archbishopric of Berlin) and the Catholic soldiers who were stationed in the city. Since 1992 she has the status of a Propsteikirche.

You used to be able to push the bike through the park. This is now expressly forbidden. So no big fountain and of all the buildings only the back. 😂
