Church of San Román de Viérnoles

The Parish Church of San Román is located in Viérnoles (Torrelavega), next to a square with a fountain with two heads, in front of the Neighborhood Council and next to the Casa de los Leones (among other palatial houses).
The church was built in the middle of the 16th century, although from that time only the square apse remains with a Gothic structure with Renaissance decoration. In 1702 lightning struck the apse so it had to be restored, throughout the 18th century it was restored on several occasions: the sections of the nave were built in 1732-33 (an inscription on one of the exterior walls recalls this construction site) .
