View from Kalmit

Highlight • Viewpoint

The highest peak of the Haardt offers a gigantic view over the entire Rhine plain. Under one extends a sea of grape vines, left and right lined with dry pine forests on the slopes of Haardt. On the top there is a restaurant, from whose terrace you can enjoy this view.

Great view of the Rhine valley!
The last 500m on fine gravel road; Rise in the area relatively flat; Easy to drive on with a racing bike, especially in dry conditions

Once you have arrived at the Kalmit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Upper Rhine Valley. The Kalmithaus is located at 673 m on the Palatinate Wine Trail and is the highest hut in the Palatinate Forest. It is the first and oldest hiking hut in the region. The house was inaugurated in 1908. Guests can enjoy Palatinate dishes or changing daily specials and game specialties inside and on the patio with a panoramic view.

St. Martin's parish church

Highlight • Religious Site

"The parish church stands at a former intersection of two Roman roads. Around the year 700, the first small wooden pilgrimage church was built here, which was dedicated to the Franconian national saint Martinus. Around 1200, this gave way to a stone building, which was probably equipped with a cross and central nave vault . In 1488 the tower was added to the west of the church and in 1492 the choir was added to the east. The central building had three naves. The pews from the 14th century have been preserved from this church, a rarity of the highest value. They stand in the gallery today."

St. Martin Historic Village

Highlight • Historical Site

The small town of St. Martin is worth a visit at any time of year. Wine bars, vineyards and cafés line up endlessly. It is a pleasure to walk through the town and of course to stop for a drink.
