View towards Hallstatt

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the vantage point in the glacier garden you have a breathtaking view down to the valley, to Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt. No wonder that the painters used to wander up to capture the unique panorama in their pictures.

The roaring forest stream here has cut an impressive swathe in the rock and rushes downhill in several waterfalls.

It's a great feeling to stand up here and look down on the town and the lake. Every step is worth the view. I would go up there again and again.

July 5, 2025,From HallStatt to viewpoint at saltwelle
Downpath at the saltwelle is closed so you are forces to use the cablecar or walk back. It was still worth but abit of an achievement let down. Walked with two kids 11y and 9y and it was a challange but not dangerous or at any point breaking their spirits. They needed stops in the shade and 2L water each …
Tour is a little late. Yesterday most of the pictures could not be uploaded. The starting point was the Hallstatt-Lahn shipping pier. The tour led first into the Echerntal, past the Schleierfall, then Waldbachstrub (waterfall), on to the Gletschergarten and onto the road above. A lot has happened there since I was there many years ago. The hiking trails are …

The gangway and the descent from the Salzberg are very steep and only accessible for experienced hikers.

From Hallstatt it went steeply up in serpentines to the World Heritage viewpoint, which towers over the abyss. Great view 👍
You could also have taken the train... our youngest would have preferred that 😉

But it only got really steep after we passed the salt mine. First on asphalt, then on forest roads, it goes up and down again, …

narrow canyons

From Hallstatt on the Malerweg along the Waldbach a bit up towards the Gletschergarten. There turn right over to the waterfalls of the Waldbach. Before that, a visit to the Eulenloch. The ascent to the waterfalls takes many steps and is still quite easy. The walkway, which then leads far up and far above the waterfalls into the …

September 7, 2022,Hallstatt Loop Hiking
This is a difficult hike. After going to the waterfall, backtrack to the sign that says 'gangsteig'. This is where you will start a steep and narrow ascent. There is a guardrail and a rope for assistance, but this is definitely not for the faint of heart. At the top is a sign that says 'For experienced only'--not sure why …
