Even if the monastery is not yet completely finished: on July 26, 1702, the first Franciscans move in. A good twenty years later, three fathers and four brothers belong to the monastery. In 1801, Friedl founded the Forestry Institute in Schwarzenberg. Until 1815, Friedl trained foresters for the Schwarzenberg districts in Bohemia and Schwarzenberg.
Josef Friedl was an exceptionally gifted forester who far surpassed his contemporaries. The measures he implemented in the forests of the Schwarzenberg estate soon bore fruit. He prepared the transformations of the Niederwald and Mitterwald forests, and his successors successfully continued the work he had begun.
Even during his lifetime, Friedl's successful work was recognized, and on his 50th anniversary of service on May 16, 1833, he was appointed Forestry Councilor. Forestry Councilor Friedl died while still an active forester on June 23, 1836, and was laid to rest in Scheinfeld.
