Chester Farm Cemetery

Highlight • Historical Site

Chester Farm was the name of a farm located approximately 500 meters south of Blauwepoort Farm. The cemetery is situated at the tip of The Bluff hill on the old Ypres-Comines canal.

Chester Farm Cemetery was established in March 1915 and was used as a frontline cemetery until November 1917. This cemetery, designed by Sir Edwin Luytens, is unique because of the arrangement of graves by battalion. Men of the 2nd Manchester Regiment and 92 officers who died between April and July 1915 were buried in Plot I. Actor and Lieutenant E.J. Carlos is one of the last casualties of the Battle of Messines. He is buried in Plot I, K 36.
