Stage 4: Huben – Sölden (approx. 11 km)
The impressive mountains in the Upper Ötztal are getting closer and closer. At the end of Huben, it goes back over the Ötztaler Ache and along a gravel path parallel to the main road. Through the underpass you land safely on the other side of the road and drive to Bruggen on gravel. Another underpass is followed by a bike bridge over the Ache near Aschbach and then a short uphill and a slight downhill. Already you come to the next bridge overpass. At the following fork in the road, keep to the east and do NOT drive in the direction of the kennel, but down to the valley floor, where another bridge crosses the Ache. The last part of the Ötztal Cycle Path finally leads to the east of the Ötztaler Ache in the municipality of Sölden.

Parish Church of St. Martin, Huben

Highlight • Religious Site

Parish Church of St. Martin in Huben
Even in ancient times, a small church in honor of the Sorrowful Mother stood "on the Hube"; this church was swept away and destroyed by the terrible flood of 1678. The following year, a new, larger church was built on the same site and consecrated on September 17, 1698, by Prince-Bishop Johann Franz Graf von Khuen.
In 1805, this church was demolished except for the presbytery because it was deemed too small for the population of the Huben pastoral congregation, and the present church was rebuilt. The tower collapsed during the great flood of 1868; it was rebuilt in 1870.
The high altarpiece, which depicts the offering of St. Martin's cloak, is still preserved. The fresco depicting St. Martin was created by Theres Strigl of Sautens, while the images on the side altars (Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart of Mary) were created by J. Stecher of Ötz. Vault frescoes (St. Martin, the Four Evangelists, Lamentation of Christ, and St. Cassian as Intercessor) were painted by Josef Wanner of Inzing. The statues of St. Cassian and John Nepomuk were carved by Josef Schatz, also from Inzing. The high altarpiece depicting the donation of St. Martin's cloak was created by Theres Strigl of Sautens, while the images on the side altars (Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart of Mary) were created by J. Stecher of Ötz. Vault frescoes (St. Martin, the Four Evangelists,
The Widum was built in 1804 at the expense of the local pastoral community and expanded in 1866. The former local chaplain, Father Anton Wilhelm, who rendered great services to Huben, died in 1884.
From "Parish Courts as Inns in Tyrol" by Franz Grass
According to existing records, in the years around 1830, the then local chaplain of Huben kept bottles of wine in his cellar to occasionally refresh the vitality of poor, sick, and elderly people with a good tipple. He was sued for unauthorized serving, but this only resulted in the formal establishment of an inn. Huben's ruling circles believed that order was best maintained in the Widum and that travelers could be best fed, and so the inn was permanently associated with it.

Ötztal Cycle Route No. 11

Highlight • Cycleway

Ötztal cycle path total route(11)
The cycle path starts in the center of Haiming. Protected by the surrounding mountain ranges, the valley entrance of the Ötztal offers a wonderful climate with little rainfall and lots of sun. The mild temperatures make it the heart of Tyrolean apple cultivation. The cycle path leads past the hamlets of Magerbach and Schlierenzau to the Ötztal train station. You continue through a forest for a few hundred meters parallel to the railway tracks to AREA 47, the largest outdoor adventure park in Austria. From here it goes south, off the main road through Brunau and along the Ötztaler Ache to Oetz.
At the end of Oetz you cycle parallel to the Ötztal federal road to Habichen. Through the underpass at Habichen, you can take a detour to the Habicher See. Or you can tackle the tough climb in the “Tumpener Gstoag” straight away. The path leads through a small section of forest (Seestall/Grube) to Tumpen. Here you go past the school in the direction of the Ötztaler Bundesstraße, which you cross in the same way as the Ötztaler Ache afterwards. Relaxed, you roll further in the direction of Umhausen, past the Engelswand, the hamlet of Lehn-Platzl and the Maria Schnee chapel. A small ascent follows directly into the center of Umhausen. Past the parish church, follow the ground markings through the hamlet of Neudurf until you cross the Ache again at the Fundus bridge at the bottom of the valley.
The cycle path continues along the Ache to the Köfels junction and on a gravel path in the direction of Au. At its end, a paved path leads above the roaring Ötztaler Ache over two newly built and spectacular bike bridges. After the second bridge, turn left into a somewhat steeper section of forest. At the end of the forest, an underpass leads to the other side of the street. At the next crossroads, turn right towards Winklen, before turning left along the Ache at the next fork, right in the direction of Unterried. At the next crossroads, turn right towards Winklen, drive through the hamlets of Oberried, Lehn and Unterried to the west of Längenfeld and finally reach Längenfeld. From here you drive past the famous Aqua Dome thermal baths and follow the path through the wide meadows of Astlehn and Runhof and finally reach Huben.
At the next fork in the road, you keep heading east and drive down to the bottom of the valley, where another bridge crosses the Ache. The last part of the Ötztal Cycle Path finally leads to the east of the Ötztaler Ache in the municipality of Sölden.
