St. Nicholas Church Althen and Cemetery

Highlight • Religious Site

The sacred building stands in the center of the village on the Anger and was built at the end of the 13th century. A special feature is that the tower of the church was built on the east side of the church above the chancel. The local cemetery still exists around the building today.

It was originally built as a late Romanesque choir tower, as evidenced by the coupled arched openings on the tower. A historical tower clock with dials on the north and south sides belongs to the tower.

The church was redesigned in baroque style in 1714.

The interior of the church is simple and bright. During the most recent renovation, underfloor heating was installed. The Althen Church is popular as a wedding and concert church.
